Punta del Este beyond the summer season

What studying Spanish in Punta del Este is like, from the lively summer months to the calm, local rhythm of the rest of the year.

Quiet beach in Punta del Este at dawn, with white apartment buildings along the coast

Punta del Este is known for its glamorous summer, but it is a very different place for most of the year: quieter, local and close to nature.

Two coasts

The peninsula divides two shores: the calmer Playa Mansa on the river side and the open Atlantic of Playa Brava, home of the famous “hand” sculpture.

Seasons

December to February brings crowds and events. Outside those months, it is easier to find calm, practise with locals and enjoy long walks on empty beaches. Nearby José Ignacio, La Barra and Piriápolis make good day trips.
